Just Off My Needles
I had a little time to knit a project for myself over the holidays. I won a lovely skein of wool in a giveaway at Lark Crafts almost 2 years ago. The yarn is dyed in lovely shades of green, made by a company in Uruguay called the Sheep Shop Yarn Company (no longer in business).
And there it sat in my drawer for almost two years, because what can you knit with only one skein of yarn? All I could think of was a toque or a headband: I don't wear toques much, and a wool headband would drive me crazy with itchiness. Finally, I had the brilliant idea of just googling "one skein knitting," and guess what? There are tons of ideas out there! My favourite were the cowls, and I found a very cool and simple pattern for a mobius cowl. I think you have to be a bit of a geek to get excited about knitting a mobius anything, so there's my confession. For those who are unfamiliar with a mobius strip, it is one continuous strip, with no beginning and no ending if you follow the edge.
My first attempt was a complete failure. It was twice as long as it should have been--almost down to my waist. Good thing it was chunky yarn knit on big needles--fast to redo.
The pattern linked to a youtube tutorial for how to cast on for mobius knitting, and there was a discrepancy for how to count stitches--pairs or individually, hence the error in my counting.
